Everyone at the Holiday Inn Denver Lakewood understands our responsibility to protect and minimize our impact on the environment.  Our mission is to establish enivornmental standards of operation, create policies designed to conserve natural resources, educate our guests and team members and to partner with local and environmentally friendly businesses.

Our hotel will adhere to the following:

  • Implement strategic environmental practices in the operation of our hotel
  • Manage resources consumed in an effort to reduce use of electric, gas, water and waste usage wherever practical
  • Educate and engage our owners, team members, guests and vendors in our ongoing efforts to protect the environment
  • Consider our commitment to the environment when making business decisions
  • Purchase low energy lighting throughout the hotel
  • Turn off non-essential equipment and lights when not in use
  • Implement a hotel recycling program to the full extent of our hotels' municipality
  • Purchase supplies made with recycled content and products that can be used more than once and/or recycled.  Purchase Energy Star® labeled appliances and equipment
  • Discard toxic materials and products that contain them properly (flourescent bulbs, batteries, chemicals, etc).  Discard only things that cannot be re-used or recycled. 
  • Use electronic or digital communications (email, telephone, text messages) before using paper/print based communications (fax,prints)

We strongly believe that our efforts to conserve energy and resources today will serve the interests of both our current and future generations

Our hotel near Denver has implemented a variety of green practices aimed at reducing waste and conserving energy resources.  Throughout our multi-million dollar renovation, we've taken extraordinary measures to 'think green' in what we buy, how we dispose of un-needed materials, and run a socially responsible, eco-friendly, 'green' hotel.

  • Recycling program: including cardboard, aluminum glass, paper, plastic, and ink cartridges
  • Using recycled glass, paper, and plastic products as a standard
  • 'Conserving for tomorrow' linen and towel use - asking guests to reuse their towels and linens rather than daily washing to reduce water consumption
  • Energy Efficient Lighting: we have replaced 2,000 light bulbs with higher efficiency lighting. Every exit sign in the building was replaced with a LED model rather than incandescent; our Holiday Inn sign will also be LED which will be 85% more energy efficient than the neon signs they replace. Our guestrooms have LED nightlights so that our guests can find their way to the bathroom at night, without leaving the bathroom lights on all night. (AHLA studies show that a tremendous percentage of guests do leave the lights on at night when staying in hotels)
  • Equipment - just installed the new UWTV 300g washing machine by UniMac (the housekeeping staff has nicknamed Hercules for its ability to wring so much water out of each load). The UWTV uses less water than conventional bath-style rinses and requires significantly shorter drying time (without the additional steel, partes and materials)  than any comparable machine on the market.  Reduced water consumption translates into less hot water and lower gas consumption; fast cycle times equals less electricity.  Also uses recycled materials.
  • Any new appliance we purchase must be Energy Star rated.
  • Training - we have implemented ongoing training for employees on 'being green'

  • NEW Occupancy sensors: 80 occupancy sensors have been installed to automatically turn lights on when a room is entered and turn them off when the space is unused.
  • Low flow shower-heads - our low-flow shower heads are more energy efficient, yet still give good water pressure for the guests shower
  • Low Flow toilets - we have begun replacing existing toilets with low-flow toilets, starting with public areas and looking to move into guestrooms
  • During our renovation, we have gone to extraordinary measures to keep the items being replaced out of the waste stream by donating them whenever possible. We contact metal recyclers anytime we dispose of metal products that can be recycled.
  • Kitchen - we even recycle the grease used in the kitchen - it's turned into biodiesel fuel.
  • We are negotiating with our food vendors to deliver the same amount of product in half the number of trips to the hotel.
  • All serving utensils and banquet/restaurant napkins and tablecloths are reusable.
  • We use pitchers of water rather than bottled water for banquet events
  • NEW: MTS Seating - we use new GreenGuard Indoor Air Quality Certified banquet chairs purchased from MTS Seating with their SynerGreen philosophy, made of 18.82% recycled materials and at the end of their lifecycle, 84% of the materials can be easily recycled.  MTS is the only hospitality seating manufacturer to earn the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification
  • NEW: IntelliFlo Pool Pump uses an  permanent magnet motor (similar to those used in hybrid cars) and are much more energy efficient than a traditional motor and is engineered for a longer life.  Its variable speed allows the pump to operate at the lowest speed necessary to accomplish the task assuring the lowest energy use possible

    • All meetings include water served in pitchers with resusable glassware
    • Meeting notepads are made of 100% recycled paper
    • All napkins are made of cloth
    • Paperless services now include electronic distribution of sales proposals, catering menus and banquet event orders

    Electricity:  Hotel has reduced electric consumption by 270,240 kwh in 2009 vs 2007

    Natural Gas:  Hotel has reduced natural gas consumption by 10,090 therms in 2009 vs 2007

    Carbon Dioxide:  As a result of the Electric and Natural Gas conservation noted, we reduced our carbon footprint by 292.9 tons in 2009 vs. 2007

    Water:  Hotel reduced water consumption by 1,421,000 gallons in 2009 vs 2007

     
    • Public Transportation - inexpensive and efficient light rail and bus.  Holiday Inn Denver Lakewood offers free shuttles to the lightrail.
    • Denver Pepsi Center - recently went 100% green, purchasing enough renewable energy to offset all electricity used for sporting and concert events.
    • Greenopolis - social networking site to develop online relations between everyday people, communities, organizations, schools and busineses
